Every whispered word in the dark. Every resistance and holding tightly to self control.
Telling the difference between a boy and a man.
This is the difference between the act and the art of growing up.

Haiku of the Day
"You are art." He says.
"Thank you" not being enough.
This one is for you.
"You are art," I think.
You're the song my heart would sing,
if words could suffice...
Your kindness could kill...
The act and art of your love,
being just enough.
"Thank you" not being enough.
This one is for you.
"You are art," I think.
You're the song my heart would sing,
if words could suffice...
Your kindness could kill...
The act and art of your love,
being just enough.

Haiku of the Day
These words tempt me,
Your persona on a screen...
It's too late at night.
You're wrecking set rules.
These habits are hard to break.
But easy to bend.
Your persona on a screen...
It's too late at night.
You're wrecking set rules.
These habits are hard to break.
But easy to bend.

Poetry of the Day
This fire's hot
and burning,
The embers spark
red-hot and yearning...
Flip it over.
Put out the fuse.
Your mouth spots out lies,
Your life's biggest ruse...
and burning,
The embers spark
red-hot and yearning...
Flip it over.
Put out the fuse.
Your mouth spots out lies,
Your life's biggest ruse...

May Glymm Box
I didn’t have to wait too long to get my Glymm box this
month! I, like every Glymm subscriber, probably noticed that we got emails
stating that Glymm would be changing their prices. Now, this doesn’t affect
current subscribers. So for all the oldies out there, our price remains at $10
a month as a sign of good faith and for loyalty. However, for any new subbies,
their price will be $12 a month.
That’s all fine with me! Besides, from the impression I got
from this month, it looks like the quality and amount of samples may be
improving.
I did notice on the card that it now lists how many uses
that can be expected from the samples. I don’t know how accurate it is, it will
definitely depend on the length of people’s hair, how dry people’s skin is…
etc. But I will say that three pages of samples is awesome…
Yay for:
Coola Mineral Matte Cucumber Face Sunscreen 5ml
I was actually in London Drugs the other day looking for
sunscreen. It’s tough to find a good sunscreen for the face that isn’t greasy
or stinky. But I’m hoping this will fit the bill for now.
NuMe HydroPunch Hydrating Conditioner 20ml
Can never go wrong with a conditioner. It has a foil seal,
but I can still smell through it and it smells wonderful!
Mereadesso Lip Treats in Sheer Rose Full Size 1.2grams
I am excited for this. It is quite a light pink, but more
than anything I’m happy about the size of this. This will last me a long time.
Caudalie Crushed Cabernet Scrub 60grams
Ack. This packaging is so cute. I can’t even handle it! It’s
totally in its own little pot, and I’m going to be reusing this for different
things. Maybe even candy.
Meh for:
Honorary Meh for the new Glymm bag!
Though like the MyGlam bag available in the States, I do
worry that after a few months I’ll have NO clue what to do with all these bags.
Cardboard is a lot easier for me to recycle than a gift bag.
Caudalie Vinosource SOS Thirst-Quenching Serum 1ml
Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet 1ml
These are tiny, and difficult to open. Plus you can’t reseal
them! I know Caudalie samples are pricey, but these look like one-use products.
CK One for Her 1.2ml
CK Shock for Him 1.2ml
I like Calvin Klein perfumes, so I’m excited for mine. I do
like that these are in spray bottles opposed to those dumb caps you pop open
that causes spilling everywhere… the For Him is going to a special someone!
Overall Impression of May’s Box:
I am pleased, and my hope for Glymm has been restored. I
think at this point it’s clear that no company is going to keep every customer
satisfied at all times. It isn’t the nature of business. But they’ve been
listening to feedback, and it seems to me they’re doing their best to make
improvements.

May Topbox
I’ve been on the waitlist for a Topbox since November?
December? And I’ve been checking the blogs looking at what people have gotten. And
drooled.
Finally I got my very first box, and I am so happy. Happier than
Glymm or Luxebox has ever made me.
Granted, I haven’t been with Luxebox since they upped their
prices from $10 a month to $12 a month. They have had some pretty good boxes since
they’ve increased their prices, but with those extra $2 a month I can get a
nice nail polish for myself… so why spend the extra?
Yay for:
Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Whatever Lola Wants Full Size 15ml
First and most astoundingly, I got a full sized Deborah
Lippmann nail polish. I don’t know if everyone got this colour, but I am happy
with my selection. It is a very sheer shimmery pink. It’ll probably take at
least 4-5 coats to make this a little bit more opaque, but I’d rather just
layer this on top of another colour. This is my first Deborah Lippmann polish
(for obvious reasons… such as their hefty price tag) so I’m super stoked to try
it.
Cover FX ClearPrep FX 7ml
I’ve tried a primer from Cover FX before and thought it was
okay. My skin doesn’t react well to salicylic acid (this has some blemish
fighting ingredients), so we’ll see if this is going to work or not for me. I do,
however, really need primer so I’m glad I can use this as a backup.
Orlane Anagenese 25+ First Time-Fighting Care Eye Contour 2ml
Orlane products are so ridiculously pricey. I would never
buy them on my own but I always really like them. I’ve gotten samples before in
my Glymm box and enjoyed their light day cream. I don’t really have undereye
circles/bags/fine lines around my eyes YET, but it’s always important to
prevent instead of cure.
Holt Renfrew Free Nail File Coupon
Unlike some coupon codes I’ve gotten in the past, I don’t actually
have to spend anything to get something. I just have to shove a piece of paper
into someone’s face and I get something. Much better than getting $100 off a
$150 product… I don’t know if I’ll actually have time to redeem this. Holt
Renfrew isn’t a place I frequent, but if I’m in the area I’ll stop by. Plus I’ve
got a few nail files that do the trick. Don’t really need another.
Meh for:
Expressions Bronzing Powder Brush Full Size
This is another full-sized product. As soon as I pulled this
brush out of the protective plastic roll, the bristles splayed on me. Not a
lot, mind you. Not so much that I’d make a face. But enough to make me wonder
about the quality a little bit. I’ll give it a try. But I do already have a lot
of powder brushes, I’d have preferred something a little more unique.
Overall impression of May’s box:
I am very pleased and impressed. I’ve been thinking about cancelling
my Glymm box, but I want to use up my points first. Or maybe I’ll put my Glymm
account on hold for a few months to decide. Topbox is scratching my girly itch!

Macbeth: Favourite lines
I've been tutoring one of my students in Macbeth, an old favourite of mine. I studied it in Grade 10 in high school, then opted to take Early and Late Shakespeare courses in University for my degree... and I loved it doubly so the second time around!
One bit I wrote out in my notebook back in Grade 10 I haven't been able to shake... it's so eerie and describes the mentality of Lady Macbeth perfectly...
Nought's had, all's spent,
Where our desire is got without content.
'Tis safer to be that which we destroy
Than by destruction dwell in doubtful joy...

Pet Peeve of the Day
DRESS PANTS
Well, ladies dress pants.
Firstly, traditional ladies dress pants have no front pockets. I am a fan of pockets. They are great for storing things - and for me personally - I can stick my awkward hands in there and avoid flailing my limbs.
They also have no back pockets either. No pockets! In fact, the back is an unflattering empty space, with space only for striped patterns or your large behind to peek through. Great.
Dress pants also flare out at the bottom. I know in the last decade or so it's easier to find skinny or bootcut dress pants, but those aren't the norm. You're paying extra to have a flattering cut. I'm sorry, but the 70s are (sadly) over, and a flare doesn't fit in this decade.
Dress pants don't stretch the way I like stretch to stretch!
Dress pants are made with this strange itchy material. They just won't ever be as comfortable as jeans. Or leggings. Or sweatpants...
They look ridiculous with sneakers.
For any workplace that makes business wear or casual business wear mandatory, dress pants will be the death of me. I hate them. They aren't comfortable and they don't go with my colourful things! I am not a formal person! I just want to be able to wear sweatpants to a workplace and not have everyone judging me to be a homeless person. Comfort does not equal homelessness. It equals practicality.

April Glymm Box!
I promise, I didn’t get this as late as this is posted. I
came back from HK and just felt so drained and stretched thin. Work waits for
no one!
But I did want to stick to my routine and post what I
received in my April Glymm box.
I received this earlier than Canada Post had predicted
(thank God, they’re so behind on updating their statuses).
And yes, I was slightly disappointed. Two of these products
I could have gotten as free samples.
Yay for:
Mai Couture Lip Gloss in Femme Fatale Full Size: 5ml
I like this. The formula is decent. It’s a little sticky,
and I will say I’d rather a darker colour (this light bubblegum pink washes my
lips out). But I do enjoy the consistency of this gloss.
Lucia No 6 Soap in Wild Ginger & Fresh Fig 25g
I love soap. It’s a bit small, but it has enough scent to
compensate for size. That is all.
Meh for:
Atelier Cologne in Orange Small.
Maybe 1.5ml?
This smells precisely like oranges. I like it a lot, but my
main hesitating in loving this is that I could get this free anywhere. The
scent lasts a long time and I got compliments the last time I wore it… but it’s
horribly expensive for the full size.
Nay for:
Free Your Mane Shampoo and Conditioner Two foil
packets
Again, I could get these free anywhere. They’re foil packets
which means they’re difficult to reuse (or even get one use of, my hair is
pretty long). Also I loathe these packets because they get so slippery in the
shower that I can’t open/squeeze/do anything with them.
NuMe Coupon code $100
off
This isn’t really worth anything. Everything on the NuMe
site costs well over $100, so with the $15 shipping this only puts a reasonable
dent in the cost of a product. Plus most girls have hair products already, and I’ve
seen this brand at Winners for $50…
